I feed my ferrets Pretty Pets Natural Gold. In the past I have used Totally Ferret, Zupreme, Path Valley and a few others. In an emergency I have fed them Purina or Iams kitten foods.
About once a month I will give my ferrets either soy milk or goat milk. They are only lactose intolerant to cow milk and they love it.
I do not give my ferrets treats, but will let them have fruit perhaps once a week. I have found they like bananas and mangoes. I never let them have grapes or raisens as those are very contriversial. I find the mango works as a laxative and is preferable to medications containing malt extract sugars.
During the summer I use electrolyte balancer in their water to prevent heat stress. Also I give them Ferretvite year round twice weekly. I am very cautious at keeping sugar intake to a minimum. And never allow a ferret to eat anything artificially sweetened as it is poison to them. |

Our gang is currently getting The Ferret Store's Natural Ferret Diet, which they have really been enjoying alot. They have been eating like little piggies.
The ferrets used to get TFS Superior Choice mixed with Iams but since they seem to love the Natural Diet so much, I think we'll stick with that.
As far as treats go, Ferretone is the favorite treat for our gang. They also get a different cat treats, such as tartar control treats. We have some pretty picky ferrets though, so there aren't many different things that they'll try.
The hairball remedy that we use we make ourselves just by adding some ferretone to 100% petroleum jelly. They really enjoy this alot, and we can avoid the sugars that are in store bought hairball remedies, which is especially useful with older ferrets that have insulinoma. It's also much cheaper this way, and works just as well for us. |

Ferrets have very short digestive tracts, so they need a food that contains easily digestible meat protein. Foods that list grain or corn as the first ingredient should not be used. Grocery store kitten or cat foods are not adequate. If you are feeding your ferret grocery store kitten or cat food, please switch to ferret food or kitten food brands like Iams or Eukanuba if ferret food is not available (and give your ferret a fatty acid supplement like Ferretone daily). Your ferret is not getting the proper nutrients with grocery store cat or kitten food. Grocery store foods contain too much fiber and not enough quality animal protein. This food can also contribute to stones in the kidneys and bladder, malnutrition, dull coats and other health problems for your ferret.
