Hello, My name is Rachel. And I'm new to the world of ferrets. I've always thought they we very cute, and crazy critters. And I finally talked my hubby into letting our family get one. So we have a new little bundle of joy in our house. His name is Jerry Garcia. Hes almost 11 weeks old. We've only had him a few days, but hes already apart of the family. Our 13 month old daughter Riley loves him, but wont touch him. If anyone has any advice, or anything I will gladly take it. We want to treat our little critter good! We already have him litter trained!!! Well Sorry to take up so much space, but Im just soo excited about our little Jerry Garcia!!!  |

Hi there!
Welcome to the addiction of ferrets!
They quickly find a warm place in our hearts. Don't they?
If Riley does not want to interact with Jerry right now, I would not suggest pushing the issue. This could cause stress for the both of them, and possibly make one of them hurt the other. You need to let them choose the pace of introductions. As Riley gets better at controlling her grasp and touch, and Jerry learns that people don't play as rough as his brothers and sisters the safety issues for the both of them will drift away.
Congrats on the litter training! Some of our kiddos took to the litter box, while others took months of changing the cage around and putting litter boxes each place they chose to go until they had no choice but to use the box.
Take all the room you like! We love to hear about peoples fuzzies and their experiences with them. And if you have any questions feel free to ask. You will find that the ferret community loves to help each other. |
